About Matt
My name is Matt Kirkegaard and I spend a lot of time around beer – and not always drinking it.
I am a beer writer based in Brisbane, Australia. I currently edit Australian Brews News. I have also edited Beer & Brewer magazine and write about beer for a number of other beer magazines as well as other newspapers and magazines that have the good taste and foresight to regard beer as a worthy enough subject to give over some space to. I am a co-host on The Beer Show on 4BC Radio (Brisbane) and organise the Good Beer Lunches. I do a bunch of other things involving writing and photography, but they’re not always beer related.
I set up the BeerMatt site as a bit of a hub for my beer related projects. It’s also a great place to vent about some of the crap that goes on with the beer industry. If you confine yourself to reading my stuff on BeerMatt you might think that I have a pretty negative view of the brewing industry – which isn’t true. Apart from getting the odd free beer for review, I don’t generate any income from this site. I write here to say things that aren’t really being said anywhere else. Not relying on advertisers, I can say what I think and the opinions are pretty strong (and not always right) but they are mine. If you don’t agree, please let me know in the comments. Afterall, while wine is a lecture, beer is a conversation.
If you have a question or want to get in contact, shoot me an email at matt@beermatt.com.
Cheers!

hey Matt,
what a great way to teach the masses. I will endeavour to post blogs about any new beers that we get in. The Wicked Elfs and the Abbeys are doing really well around the traps with more and more outlets looking for things a little different.

Hi Matt – was just speaking to Andrew Eldridge and he said you might be interested in this digital story we made at State Library Qld. It’s an interview with Greg Curran from Sunshine Coast Brewery on craft beers, alternative brewing methods etc: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYLH-G2OmKo
